Music Background & Credentials
I obtained a Bachelor of Music with a specialisation in opera performance from l'Université de Montréal and was one of only two Classical Voice students in my year to have been accepted directly into performance. I plan to pursue a Master's degree in opera performance next year. Voice (classical, musical theatre and jazz) and Piano (ten years of classical training).
Professional Experience
- Performed in over 10 musicals in my hometown of Winnipeg, almost all with lead roles. - 2nd place in Manitoba Music Festival- Gilbert & Sullivan class. - Co-writer and lead role in Prairie Theatre Exchange's original play, Matches. - One of twelve young performers involved in the 2005 season of Prairie Theatre Exchange's Junior Company. - Film experience on independent cinema projects. - Soloist in Université de Montréal's Atelier d'Opéra and their presentation of Suor Angelica (2014).
Teaching & Other Details
- Recipient of the Mayor of Winnipeg's Arts Achievement Award for my contributions to the art scene, there. - Sturgeon Heights Band Parents Association bursary recipient upon acceptance into Music Performance post-secondary studies. - Recipient of the Afro-Caribbean Association of Manitoba's post-secondary scholarship for my pursuit of musical training. As a vocalist, I believe in a natural approach to singing. As such, I encourage students to be aware of human anatomy and how the respiratory system works in relation to pitch, projection and general voice health. I also place emphasis on movement and physicality during performance, which helps with breath support and incorporate yoga-like movement exercises into the classroom. Students should move at their own pace, and I believe in adjusting my instruction to suit the learner.
Availability
I currently have another job, to which I have offered full availability. I am able to change my schedule for there depending on the demand for this position without a problem.
Preferred Teaching Place
I am able to teach in my home, but would prefer to arrange a meeting either downtown at Concordia or in Westmount or can neet students with keyboards/pianos at their chosen location.
