Teaching & Other Details
Beginner: I like to use the Suzuki method, because learning by ear is an important part of being a musician. However, I like to introduce reading music early in the process, and supplement the Suzuki method with other pieces and exercises that can fill in any gaps that are left by the Suzuki Method. Intermediate: For intermediate level students, I like to transition away from the Suzuki method and focus on more substantial pieces, and techniques. 2-3 octave scales, schradieck, wolfhartt, carl flesch. Advanced: With advanced students I like to work on repertoire that is challenging, and part of the professional canon. Mozart violin concertos, and all the repertoire that is beyond that. I also like to continue working on technical skills, and even expand into harder techniques. Whether it's about learning to hold the violin and play twinkle twinkle, or learning to play Mendelssohn violin concerto, playing the violin cultivates and requires skills that are essential to being successful in any endeavor: critical thinking, discipline, creativity, and goal setting. When teaching, I like to bring an individualized approach that best meets a students needs, but which maintains high expectations when it comes to these skills.
