Music Background & Credentials
I was born into a family of musicians and have been studying music (piano, classical guitar and drums) since I was a child. Currently living in Vancouver with my wife and three kids. At a young age I started to studying percussion with the Senegalese maestros Badu N’dyae and Sena M’baye at the “Scuola popolare di Musica di Testaccio” in Rome. In Rome at the TIMBA drums school I studied afro-cuban drums (conga, Timbal, Bongò, Batà) with maestros such as Roberto “mamey” Evangelisti, Paulo La Rosa and Valter Paiola. Timba has been very important for me because it gave me the opportunity to meet and learn from prominent figures who were often in the school such as Reinaldo Hernandez Ramirez (El Goyo jr) and Irian Lopez Rodriguez (los Chinitos). I started to be interested in the cuban folklore, the Rumba, the Son, Salsa and Latin Jazz. At the same time, from 1998 to 2002 I was a member of the choral association “Musicanova” in Rome, led by Fabrizio Barchi through which I have been able to work with Ennio Morricone, Leo Brower, Mina, Andrea Bocelli and Branduardi and travel on tour to Denmark, Sweden, Finland, France and Greece. I travelled around Sevilla, Cordoba, Granada, Malaga and Barcelona in order to understand the Flamenco language and then decided to move to Madrid because of the “new school” and to learn more about modern Flamenco cajon with the great maestros José Ruiz “Bandolero”, Rafael Jimenez “el Chispas” and José Antonio Montaña. For many years I taught flamenco cajon at the TIMBA music school in Rome before moving to Vancouver in 2014. I am currently working as a freelance percussionist in Vancouver performing and creating recordings. My purpose is the fusion of the flamenco and Latin percussion, through live performances and especially through teaching.
Professional Experience
I worked with great Flamenco artists such as the guitarists Manuel Montero Miranda (Sevilla), Rycardo Moreno (Lebrija), Roben Portillo Ponce (Malaga), Vahagni Turgutyan (Los Angeles – Armenia), Daniele Bonaviri (Italy), Matteo D’agostino (Italy), Riccardo Ascani (Italy), Ernesto Bravo Perez (Cuba), Daniel Jurado (Spain), with the flamenco singers David Hornillo (Spain), Alejandro Villaescusa (Spain), Jose Salguero (Spain), Naike Ponce Gonzalez (Spain) and the violinist Juan Carlo Abelo Zamora (Cuba). I played for great Flamenco dancers such as Felipe Mato (Sevilla), Marcos Jimenez (Sevilla), Cristina Benitez (Barcelona), Sandra Cisneros (Malaga), Carmen Meloni (Flamenco Lunares Company), Dario Carbonelli and Lara Ribichini (Flamenco Vivo Company), Sabrina Logué (El Rio Andaluz Company). Since my transfer in Vancouver I have been working mostly with Kasandra “La China” and the Al Mozaico Flamenco Academy, Liron Man (Israel), Vicente Griego (New Mexico), Jafelin Helten (Venezuela) and with other local companies as Centro Flamenco Rosario and Karen Flamenco.
