As a graduate of the Royal Conservatory and University of Toronto in piano, viola and composition, John has had a long and varied musical career. After post graduate studies at the University of Victoria, John returned to Toronto to continue performing and arranging, as well as teaching strings for the Toronto District School Board. This led to various conducting posts leading string orchestras and teaching in summer music camps for the board, as well as performing with various orchestras, string ensembles and music theatre groups. John enjoys reading, gardening, and performing on a beautiful Arthur Richardson Tertis viola circa 1945, as well as a modern carbon fibre viola made by Mezzo Forte in Germany. John truly believes that making music makes you smarter!

Puccini Festival Orchestra (assoc. principal), Orchestra Teatro Lirico Sperimentale de Spoleto, Symphony Canada, Etobicoke Symphony, Oshawa Symphony, Scarborough Symphony, North Bay Symphony, Northern Sinfonia of Ontario, Pickering Philharmonic (principal), Scarborough Music Theatre, Scarborough Choral Society, Yorkminstrels, Etobicoke Music Theatre, Sheraton Cadwell Orchestra, Resa’s Pieces Strings, Strings Attached Orchestra (principal) and Music4Life Ensemble (principal). Violist with "Trio da Capo", "Quartet Classique", "Gala String Quartet", and the “Perfect Harmony String Quartet“. Currently performing as a free-lance violist and pianist in the greater Toronto area.
Teaching & Other Details
Classical and Suzuki methods combined in a fun and rewarding learning experience. I love to learn from my students too.
